create a Brochure that will be distributed through the I Love New York Campaign Headquarters to travel agencies and other outlets statewide. They will produce over 200,000 brochures to be distributed. Your company provides the finished electronic art containing the copy and graphics in place and ready for print production. Your client pays for a portion of the advertising costs of the brochure while the I Love New York Campaign arranges discounted rates for production with NYS printers eager to have the business. So, do not concern yourself with costs or production at this time. Concentrate on the message of your brochure. It is intended for the General Public, particularly those who are planning a trip in the near future. Think of the many activities and benefits a trip to the Islands provides and use those images and ideas in your brochure. 1.) This document can be either a 2-fold, 6-panel brochure or a 3-fold, 8-panel brochure depending on how you allocate your space. You may even include a coupon or other inducement to spark visits if you deem it appropriate for your audience. Collect examples of direct mailers and brochures to use as references and follow the instructions in this course to guide you through this project. 2.) This Brochure/Direct Mailer should include information all the benefits the area holds for tourists, including fishermen, sportsmen of all kinds, golfers, campers, sight seers, boating enthusiasts, bicyclists, and many more. Include attractions and activities to spark interest. 3.) The area boasts activities that are of interest to families, business people, single people and couples --- of various ages and ethnicities. The graphics you choose should help promote the product to these special audiences. For instance, you can show a wide range of people enjoying activities in a wide variety of settings. 4.) The database to receive the initial brochure does not have to be created: The I Love New York Campaign is handling most of the distribution of the brochures. The Thousand Islands International Council will receive approximately 30,000 brochures to distribute locally and will give them to local townspeople directly. A few will be set aside to be mailed to people who make direct inquiries. So your company will not be involved in database development or distribution of the materials. 5.) Calls To Action: Make it easy for people who receive the brochure to get more information on the area. Provide an email option where they can contact a list of people in the various towns about specific activities in their area. Add the number of the 1000 Islands Bridge Authority. People there will direct the call to the right parties or send them information directly on events, locations, times, etc. There are some other ways of doing this as well that you may encounter in your readings or in the samples you collect. Just make sure the recipient CAN respond to your message and purchase the product. Specifics: 1.) This brochure will be an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper folded into thirds or an 11" X 17" of paper folded into 4 panels. That will give you either 6-panels or 8-panels for headlines, subheads, copy, and graphics. 2.) Use your Slogan that you developed as part of the Marketing/Promotional Plan and any logos or graphics you have envisioned. 3.) Collect some brochures and direct mailers on similar travel destinations that you like to use as MODELS for the brochure you will create. 4.) Use the information you have as to the audiences you need to influence (potential visitors) and create this brochure with those audiences in mind. Refer to the benefits and features the region has that make it appealing to key audiences. 5.) As you write your copy please indicate headlines, subheads, taglines, Calls To Action as appropriate. Be sure to craft it in such a way that the recipient knows how to and can easily respond to the information provided in the brochure. 5.) Write your brochure, add your graphics and submit it to my DropBox in myCourses for review by the Friday of Week 7 of this class. Note: You do not have to know how to use a desktop publishing program to create this brochure. If you do not know how to do that, simply label your paper: (Cover) Then add a description of the cover graphics, logo, and headline. (Inside Panel 1) Describe what copy and graphics go on panel 1. Write the headlines, subheads and copy and indicate the graphics. (Inside Panel 2) Describe what copy and graphics go on panel 2 (the inside middle panel.) Write the headlines, subheads and copy and indicate the graphics. (Inside Panel 3) Describe what copy and graphics go on panel 3 (the panel folded under).
