Louis MO PMI conferences are held every quarter in different cities and countries so that PMI members can network with other likeminded PMs and for them to earn PDUs that are needed to stay certified. It is truly a privilege when PMI International asked a local chapter to host a local conference in their city.
Ive grouped the course project details by the PMI PMBOK knowledge areas below. These are the core technical subject matter of the project management profession, and they bring the project to life. If knowledge areas are new to you, please research them online by searching for PMI knowledge areas.
Integration Management
o The project charter is the one key document that lays out the entire project and covers all the PMI Knowledge Areas listed below. The charter is a living document and should be updated throughout the project.
This course project overview will serve as the business case and project proposal and has enough information to get you started on initiation and planning.
A project charter is created for this project using the template provided. Each section of the charter should be filled in using details from this document and from your experience.
Stakeholder Management
o The project sponsor is the Metro STL PMI President and will be filled by your professor for the course project.
o There will be between people from around the country attending the event and at least local PMI Chapter members volunteering to help with registration and daily coordination. Volunteers register like normal attendees and should be added to the attendee count.
o Ten business sponsors have agreed to provide conference prizes in exchange for a table at the event. Their people attending the event will register like normal attendees and should be added to the attendee count.
o Your project team must have at least project team members from the volunteer pool project manager, event planner, coordinator, content developers, writers, editors, speakers, presenters, event staff, etc.
You the student are the project manager and will be the only real name used in the project documents.
Only fictional name can be used for all other team members.
Assume that your team members are volunteers from the local PMI Chapter and will not charge for their time.
Scope Management
o You have been hired by the local PMI chapter to be the project manager that will plan a major day conference event here in St Louis, MO
o The event week will include two tracks, including, project management and agile project management.
o An exhibition or vendor show will run every day in the hallways outside the presentation rooms.
The exhibition is run by the business vendors mentioned in the stakeholder section.
o This project includes planning the development of two workshop for the event. You are
not expected to develop the workshops as part of this project only the planning. The first workshop will be for the PM track and is on creating a project charter. The second workshop is for the Agile track and is on using personal Kanban. PMI volunteers will create the workshops and all you need to do is plan out the major deliverables and milestones as follows.
Analysis
Needs to be done by the end March.
Design
Follows Analysis and needs to be done by end of April.
Development
This will take four weeks to complete and must be done by end of May so that training materials can be sent off to the printer.
Implementation
This happens every day during the conference week during the afternoon interactive workshop.
o You are responsible for planning and executing the event website development. It will have similar phases like the workshop development Analysis Design, Development, and Implementation.
o Another important deliverable that you will plan is the event survey that is developed ASAP and executed on the last day of the event. After the event you project team will summarize the data and send out a report on the feedback.
Schedule Management
o The Course Project Kickoff is in week of the class and will include planning activities and some execution activities.
o The PMI event that you are planning will occur during the upcoming Summer, starting the first full week in June.
o The Conference Event is spread over days in downtown St Louis. This is an onsite event not virtual.
o You the Project Manager will create a project schedule that covers task before the event, tasks during the event, and tasks after the event.
For example, the daily schedule during the event week will include two tracks, including, project management and agile project management.
Each day will start at : AM and end at : PM
