Sales to a small number of distributors are cash sales. When a purchase order is received from a distributor, a sales invoice is generated and the requested items are pulled from finished goods inventory. Copies 1,2 , and 3 of the invoice are sent to shipping where the bill of lading is prepared in triplicate. Copy 3 of the bill of lading and copy 3 of the invoice are filed numerically by the shipping department. Copy 2 of the bill of lading and copy 2 of the invoice are filed numerically by the shipping department. Copy 1 of the bill of lading and copy 1 of the invoice are sent to accounting where the accounting clerk updates the sales register. Copy 1 of the bill of lading and copy 1 of the invoice are then filed numerically. The sales register is totaled monthly and then posted to the General Ledger
