Bear Outdoors

Bear Outdoors is a facility that provides activities in polo, golf and tennis. Located on the outskirts of Lake Travis in Austin, the club is exclusively available to Baylor alumni and their family. Within the Bear Outdoors, application clerks process all applications.

Applicants fill out a widely available paper form and mail it in or complete one on$-$line at the club's web site. On$-$line applications are printed out by the computer in the application department as they are received. The applications clerk enters the applicant's name into a PC program that verifies the applicant's name $($or name of Baylor family member$)$ against a single database of that contains known criminals and A&M alumni and then a second database of Baylor alumni. Applicants in the first database or not in the second are rejected. The system then updates applicants' status to "accepted" or "rejected." The applications clerk mails the rejected applications back to the applicant with a blank Baylor University admission application form that is retrieved from a file of blank forms in the application clerk's office $($the blank forms are numerically filed$).$

Accepted applications are forwarded to the membership clerk, who uses a computer to input the accepted applications into a membership file. The computer immediately generates the following:

a paper list of $4$ available tee times from the tee time database;

a paper list of contact numbers for the polo teams practicing at the club from the polo club database;

a paper list of $4$ available court times and the contact information for the tennis pro from the court reservation database;

an invoice for payment of the $$5,000$ membership fee.

The documents are mailed to the new member. The application form is then filed alphabetically.
