Create a Response to my peer, Connor.
Scenario 2: You are traveling with your work laptop to a conference and leave it for five minutes at the airport terminal as you go to the bathroom. You asked your colleague to keep an eye on it, but when you return, your colleague has boarded the plane and taken your belongings. As you look through, you realize your laptop is missing. When you confront your colleague, she says it was just there a moment ago and she is certain she brought it on board with her. Your laptop contains secure information regarding your organization and has remote access to your clinical information system. The policy at your organization for a data breach is to call tech support immediately and report the breach. You think it may just be misplaced and begin looking.
Choose one of the scenarios above and answer the following:What challenges are present in the scenario, and what are some steps that can be taken to address them? What is the relationship between ethics and policy? Do they always match up with one another? What happens when individual ethics do not align with organizational policy?
Support your answer with relevant resources.
According to my peer, Connor, he stated that the second scenario present challenges to data security, organizational compliance, and ethics. Immediately, a concern can be raised regarding the potential breaches of sensitive information that could be stored in the missing laptop, which would expose patient data and violate HIPAA regulations (McCoy & Perlis, 2018). Any portable technology should be secured on your person at all times and never left alone. My peer stated that another concern is delayed reporting, as the organization's policy is to immediately report any lost equipment upon discovering it is missing- which is implied to not be the case in this scenario. The employee should immediately report to the IT/security team to ensure the situation is properly handled, even if the laptop is found soon after. My peer stated that ethics and policy are often interconnected, as policies typically serve to promote ethical standards within an organization (Racelis,2010). Organizational ethics establish standards that allow companies to uphold integrity and virtue initiatives. However, individual interpretations of ethics can, on occasion, conflict with policies, leading to interorganizational strain, confrontations, and in rare cases, change in leadership. Therefore, it is critical for organizations to create a culture that enforces ethical behavior1. In response to your peer, Conner, provide a pro or con to your peer's response, supported by research. Discuss how policies could enable proper ethical responses or how ethics could help define proper policies. Finally, illustrate how you would have handled this situation
