I do believe that tariffs can be a good policy even though by the general public they are frowned upon. Tariffs can prevent businesses from other countries from selling goods at extremely low prices that will put businesses in the home country from going out of business (dumping). Tariffs can also be used in a negative way, for example when Boeing and Airbus both claimed that each company was receiving illegal subsidies from their respective countries, both countries retaliated by placing tariffs on imported goods from the other country. This not only affected Boeing and Airbus but also affected smaller companies that had nothing to do with the grievance
