I love this question. I believe it is our job to help steer students in the right direction - they are kids, some with great home lives and others with no guidance at all - if we can help guide these students even after they fail or mess up than the better they will be down the road. I believe that once the suspension is served we can address this student with restorative practices where he or she can begin to repair any relationships they have broken or forgive the people who hurt them. These students can be guided in the right direction with life lessons, conversations, instruction and so much more but I believe holding these essential meetings with everyone involved in the incident can only help them see the right way to resolve conflicts.
