In "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian," Sherman Alexie uses the character of Junior to express the theme about identity and belonging. Junior is a Native American teenager who goes to an all white high school. He faces problems and racism, but his strength, humor, and drive help him get through the tough parts of youth and find himself and acceptance. As Junior goes through his life, Alexie shows how important traditional pride is, how systemic racism affects Indigenous communities, and how education can break down social barriers.
