Creating a Research Profile Assignment Instructions
Overview
The research profile is used as a tool for communicating and discussing the research topic and design with the student dissertation supervisor. The goal of this assignment is that students might learn what content is included in a research profile and how the research profile is uniquely formatted in this program. To accomplish this goal, the student will read the dissertation written by Dr. Brandon Shields and develop a brief research profile based on that dissertation:

The profile will be 3-5 pages in length and will summarize the dissertation content but will not evaluate that content.
Instructions
Your job is to "deconstruct" the Shields dissertation and create a summary document called a "Research Profile." The profile document provides a 3 to 5-page overview of the dissertation design and findings. Use the following outline to develop your profile. Note: The profile will be single-spaced, rather than double-spaced and will follow APA formatting for headings. DISSERTATION TITLE
Research Problem
Write a brief one to two-paragraph description of the research problem and its importance. Draw out key arguments/support as if you were writing from the perspective of the author. Include appropriate citation. Contents for the problem statement may be taken directly from the dissertation and pasted under this heading.
Research Purpose Statement
This is a single sentence statement of the objective or intent of the research. It is the larger question that the study sets out to answer. Provide this as it was stated in the dissertation.
Research Questions
List these as they appear in the dissertation following the format below. Generally, these will be three to seven in number and are typically labeled as follows.
RQ1. State the research questions, as found in the dissertation.
RQ2. State the research questions, as found in the dissertation.
RQ3. State the research questions, as found in the dissertation.
Continue listing research questions as they appear in the dissertation if there are more than three. Delimitations of the Research
Delimitations are the boundaries of the study and define what will and will not be studied. You may list these here as they appear in the dissertation. These are sometimes written in paragraph form or are found in a numbered list.
Research Population
The research population is composed of all individuals, groups, or subjects of interest to the researcher and that share something in common. The research population was the group from which data was sought. Briefly describe the population used in the dissertation.
Research Sample(s) and Sampling Technique
Describe how the research participants were selected from the population for the study and the characteristics of the sample group. The sample group should represent the population for study purposes. Identify the specific sampling technique that was used in the study.
Methodological Design
Briefly describe how the study was conducted and what approach was used in the study design. Include the rationale for the research design used.
Instrumentation
Identify any research instruments used by listing the name, type, and design of the instrument. You do not need a copy of the instrument, just describe it here. Include approach for data analysis.
Limitations of Generalization
To whom can this study be applied? The limits of generalization describe the group to which the research can be applied. Also, are there groups that the study cannot be applied?
Findings and Conclusions
Briefly summarize the findings of this dissertation. Present the findings as they were related to the research questions and conclusions, as found in chapters four and five of the dissertation.
Resources (Precedent Literature)
In a dissertation, the resources section can be extensive. For this assignment, select 3 or 4 of the key literature resources used by the researcher.
Use current APA style to present these references in this profile document, not the style used in the original dissertation
