CURRENT ASSIGNMENT:
This week, we have a work week. At the end of the week, students should have the research necessary (7 - 10 credible sources on notecards) to produce a strong persuasive argument. Key to the writing of the paper is identification of the 3 key arguments and necessary counterarguments. The key arguments must be supported by the research.
This is a self-assessment week. Students will revisit the Troubleshooting form, update it, and submit.
( I have attached last weeks troubleshooting form below this assignment so that you can see what was done last week and UPDATE it)
THE FINAL ASSESSMENT OF RESEARCH/OUTLINE
Troubleshoot the Writing Process:
Part 1: Evaluate Working Question
What is my persuasive question (thesis):
Evaluate: What am I trying to persuade my audience to see?
Evaluate:
Identify TOPIC
Identify SCOPE
Identify PURPOSE
Part 2: Evaluate Research.
Self Evaluation:
Sources Identified. 7-10 sources.I have a BIBLIOGRAPHY CARD for each source.
Each of the above sources has been SCANNED for content.
NOTECARDS have been created (quotes, paraphrases) for all of the sources.
I have identified the following main ideas for the paper (outline).
1.
2.
3.
HERE IS LAST WEEKS ASSIGNMENT TO GO OFF OF. ( NOT CURRENT ASSIGNMENT !!!! )
Part 1: Evaluate Working Question - ABOUT PTSD
- Identify TOPIC: Post-traumatic stress disorder is the subject of my research. This is a mental health condition that is precipitated by direct exposure to or witnessing a horrifying event. Since it is a wide topic, I must refine it to a particular facet that I can discuss convincingly.
- Identify SCOPE: The scope of my paper may be predicated on the particular facet of PTSD that I elect to emphasize. An instance of my area of interest could be treatment options; for instance, the efficacy of various therapies for veterans with PTSD; the ramifications of PTSD on veterans; the enduring consequences of trauma; or strategies for providing assistance to an individual with PTSD.
- Identify PURPOSE: Argumentation for the significance of comprehending and providing assistance to individuals with PTSD, the necessity for additional resources for veterans grappling with PTSD, or the gravity of the situation itself could comprise the body of my paper. If my objective is to sway, then I might attempt to persuade my audience that a specific treatment for PTSD is the most efficacious.
One potential persuasive query (thesis) could be: "What are the critical reasons for increasing the availability of resources for veterans afflicted with PTSD?" Alternatively, "How does understanding and supporting people with PTSD contribute to their recovery?"
Part 2: Evaluate Research
Self Evaluation:
Sources Identified: 7-10 sources. I have a BIBLIOGRAPHY CARD for each source. (SOURCES I UTILIZED:
- What is PTSD? Symptoms, treatment & support for Veterans (maketheconnection.net)
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) (nih.gov)
- Psychiatry.org - What is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?
- Helping Someone with PTSD - HelpGuide.org
- PTSD From Emotional Abuse: The Long-Term Effects of Trauma (verywellhealth.com)
- Improving Healthcare for Veterans with PTSD (va.gov)
- Study explores reasons why Veterans seekor don't seekPTSD care (va.gov)
I've scanned each source for content, I've created notecards for each source. These notecards include key points, quotes, and paraphrases that I might use in my paper.
For the main ideas of my paper, based on your sources, I could consider:
- Definition and symptoms of PTSD.
- The impact of PTSD on veterans.
- The long-term effects of trauma.
- How to support someone with PTSD.
