during an oedometer test on soil sample. The sample thickness was 20mm.
Determine the time for 90% consolidation to occur (t90) and the coefficient of
consolidation (cv) using Taylor's root time construction and the following
formula:
cv=0.848d2t90
where: d= drainage path length
Using the coefficient of consolidation (cv) calculated in Part 1 determine the
time for 90% consolidation of the 3m thick clay layer shown in the figure
below, where a relatively impermeable embankment is to be constructed
on top of the clay layer.
Give 2 No. examples of how the time to reach 90% consolidation could be
decreased.
