Question: [ d = 1 . 1 9 4 mathrm { in } . ] free body diagram, An AISI 1 0 2

\[
d=1.194\mathrm{in}.
\]
free body diagram,
An AISI 1020 cold-drawn steel shaft with the
geometry shown in the figure carries a transverse load of 7 kN and a torque of 107 N - m . Using the DE-Goodman criterion, what is the factor of safety guarding against a fatigue failure at (a) the location of the shoulder between the 45 and 40 mm diameters (225 mm from the left) and (b) the location after the right bearing (345 mm from the left). Remember that in doing the bending moment diagram, the reaction forces are at the center of the bearings (15 mm and 330 mm from the left). Also, the torque is only exerted om the right part of the shaft after the 7 kN force. At the 345 mm location, there is only steady torque, so you will need to use the static criterion against yielding.
