Question:
Daarun does not currently have an Individual Learning and Support Plan. Review the notes which the teacher has provided through conversations with the school's Learning and Support Coordinator.
My name is: Daarun My age is: 14 years My family and cultural background: I live with my Mum and Dad in a house in the suburbs. Mum and Dad came to Australia from India when I was 1. I have a younger sister, Sabita, in Year 6. My favourite activities: I like to watch the skateboarders at the park near my home. I ride my skateboard too, just that I am clumsy. I know all the makes and models of the boards. I spend a lot of time alone at school - the other boys don't seem to want to spend time with me - they complain that all I do is talk about skateboards. My interests and strengths: I like skateboards. I also like Techdecks. I know all the specifications of each model and I have a Tech deck I take to school - it makes me feel safe. I am very strong at maths - I can do complex calculations in my head. I regularly have been 1st in the class for maths at primary and high school. I find it difficult to understand the feelings of other people. Other information about me: The school recommended I be assessed and my doctors said last week, to my Mum and Dad, that I am on the spectrum. I like being at home with my family. I feel safe at home - I know what is happening and when. I find unexpected changes make me feel unsafe - when this happens, I settle and calm myself by reciting the Techdecks I have, in order from when I got them. That makes me feel better. When I feel scared or excited, I will sometimes flap my hands. Some other students laugh at this at times. They make me mad. If things change and I am not ready for it I get upset and cry. Sometimes I can hold my Techdeck, and I place it on a flat surface and control it with two fingers- that makes me feel a bit better, but some teachers ask me to leave it in my pencil case. I am on the spectrum. The Learning and Support Coordinator has asked you to support Daarun across all of his subjects. The coordinator has collected vocabulary and tips from all of his teachers, as they would like you to follow their examples and use the same language and strategies when working with Daarun. |
