Data Analysis

In the figures below, the data is summarized. Due to this being a scientific study, the standard alpha level of was used to evaluate the results' significance.

Figure 1 illustrates the counts for data collection. Among the 1,718 individuals in the sample, 307 (17.88%) have been told they suffer from depression. Approximately 72.64% of the depressed sample population included individuals who owned a gun in their home.

Figure 2 exemplifies the proportion of depressed individuals who have a gun at home. It seems that more guns are owned in homes of individuals who were not told they have depression. However, out of the individuals who answered yes to depression, a larger amount of them owned a gun.

Figures 3A and 3B display the results of the chi-square test for independence and symmetric measures. The chi-statistics was = 6.07 with a p-value of p=.014. The degrees of freedom were calculated using the number of gun owners.

The focus of the study was to determine if depression rates fluctuated between owning a gun and not owning a gun.

The data's evaluation concluded the sample depression rate to be ____%, considerably higher than the 7.1% reported rate for depression in adults in the U.S (NIMH, 2017).
