Three studies provided data that we could use for metaanalysis (Cross 2012; Cross 2019; McCombie 2020). All three studies enrolled only adults. Webbased disease monitoring (n = 254) is probably equivalent to usual care (n = 174) in reducing disease activity in adults with IBD (SMD 0.09, 95% CI 0.11 to 0.29; Analysis 1.1). The certainty of the evidence is moderate, downgraded for risk of bias mainly due to lack of blinding. Subgroup comparison showed similar disease activity in the UC and CD groups. A fixedeffect sensitivity analysis showed no difference in the results (Analysis 1.2). Del Hoyo 2018 and Malickova 2020 did not provide suitable data for metaanalysis. Del Hoyo 2018 measured disease activity only by proxy (FC levels) and reported no variance measure. At 24 weeks, the median FC level for clinical activity was 137 g/g in the webbased group and 230 g/g in the control. Malickova 2020 reported HBI mean scores of 3.48 in the webbased group and 2.71 in the control, and Partial Mayo mean scores of 2.71 in the webbased group and 2.57 in the control.
