Database question
Project 1
Objectives:
Learn how to design, normalize and implement relational databases.
Tools:
MS Visio 2013, MS Access 2013.
Description:
Study Chapters 1-4.
Study the following Appendices: Designing Databases with Visio 2013, Converting an ER Model into a Database Structure, Comparison of ER Model Notations, Unified Modeling language (UML), Microsoft Access 2013.
Class work:
Consider the data shown in Figure 1.3 (p. 12) (use MS Access 2013, LastNameFirstName_ch1_EmployeeSkill.accdb).
Identify entities and their attributes (eliminate redundancy).
Build the ER diagram and UML class diagram (use MS Visio 2013).
Identify all relationships, implement these relationships using primary-foreign key pairs.
Implement every entity (class) as a table and every attribute as a field.
Enforce the entity integrity rules.
Populate tables with data (see Figure 1.4 (p. 13)).
Enforce the referential integrity rules, and create the Relationship Report.
Create and run Query 1 and Query 2 (p. 13).
Consider the data shown in Figure 1.5 and Figure 1.6 (pp. 15-16) (use MS Access 2013, LastNameFirstName_ch1_CustomerAgent.accdb).
Solve Problems 6-8 (Chapter 2, LastNameFirstName_ch2_TinyCollege.accdb). Create the ERD and UML class diagrams using MS Visio 2013.
Homework:
For the Chapter 1 Figure P1.5 (LastName_FirstName_ch1_Problems5_8.accdb) (Find and resolve the related data inconsistencies (if any). Each project involves many employees. Each employee participates in many projects.):
Identify entities and their attributes (eliminate redundancy).
Build the ER diagram and UML class diagram (use MS Visio 2013).
Identify all relationships, implement these relationships using primary-foreign key pairs.
Implement every entity (class) as a table and every attribute as a field.
Enforce the entity integrity rules.
Populate tables with data.
Enforce the referential integrity rules, and create the Relationship report.
For the Chapter 2 Problem 14 (LastName_FirstName_ch2_Problem14.accdb):
Identify entities and their attributes (eliminate redundancy).
Build the ER diagram and UML class diagram (use MS Visio 2013).
Identify all relationships, implement these relationships using primary-foreign key pairs.
Implement every entity (class) as a table and every attribute as a field.
Enforce the entity integrity rules.
Populate tables with data (every table should have at least 3 records).
Enforce the referential integrity rules, and create the Relationship report.
