Defendant, a single mom, aged 43, dated Boyfriend since 1995. Boyfriend was a con artist, who bilked people out of money for years, fraudulently posing as a medical manufacturer for life support ventilators. Boyfriend advertised that, for a fee of $50,000, he would make money by selling defective ventilators to hospitals for up to $1,000,000. Defendant was a lawful permanent resident of the United States, having immigrated to the U.S. from a foreign country in 1994. From 1995-2003, the single mom and con artist boyfriend was selling defective medical ventilators to hospitals, in which, it was an increase in deaths. Unbeknownst, numerous ER physicians noticed that the ventilation machines in the patients' rooms were shutting down and providing false readings of patients' bodily functions. University Hospital reported this matter to the law enforcement authorities, in which the single mom and boyfriend were arrested and charged with 100 deaths as a result from the defective ventilation machine devices sold to University Hospital. In 2005, families of the 100 deaths filed a wrongful death suit on University Hospital totaling $500,000,000.
