Topic

Your topic must relate to your anticipated career path of probation officer.

You have two options to think about framing the content of this essay.

Option 1

Think about a term (word or phrase) related to / unique to your anticipated career path. Define it so that someone not in the career field could understand. In some cases, the career path may be the term to define. For instance, if you wanted to be a "life coach" or a "transition doula" you might need to define what that person does. However, you probably would not need to define what a college professor is if that was your anticipated career path.

Be careful to avoid using professional jargon to define jargon.

Option 2

Think about an abstract term like success and how it is defined it in the context of your anticipated career path. What does success look like for a college professor? What does success look like for a nurse? What does success look like for a mechanic? Obviously, "success" is not the only abstract concept term that can be considered for definition. Other terms such as cultural fluency, leadership, integrity, and sustainability can be applied to various career fields.

Point of View

You must write using third person, objective point of view. You may not use first person (I, me, we, our) or second person (you) in this paper, unless it is within a quote.

Thesis

Your thesis state should be the last sentence of the first paragraph. It should not be a quote, a question, a statement of fact, or source material.
