The three primary roles in human resources are strategic, operational, and administrative. As an HR professional with ten years of experience, I have progressively engaged in each of these roles, moving from administrative tasks to strategic planning.
Strategic and operational HR management are closely interconnected. Strategic HR management focuses on forecasting long-term outcomes and ensuring that the organization has sufficient talent in the pipeline to meet its future objectives. In contrast, operational HR addresses the daily tasks necessary to satisfy employees' needs (Contributor, C., 2020). The key distinction is that strategic HR takes a forward-thinking approach to talent development to achieve significant long-term business goals. At the same time, operational HR focuses on current, day-to-day responsibilities.
The administrative component of HR encompasses the department's clerical duties. Employees can update their information directly with the HR Information System (HRIS). In this administrative area, we generate ad hoc reports on data to assess its completeness and accuracy. Conduct research and establish benchmarks with the workforce.

Attracting and retaining talent has become increasingly complex, which is one of my challenges. Many workers have left their jobs in the past five years, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, I believed that the pandemic had highlighted the importance of work-life balance. However, as I examined the exit interviews more closely, I realized that our company culture was the real issue. Making a job offer is just the beginning of the recruitment process; it requires ongoing effort to develop talent and foster an engaged culture (Hayes, 2024). Retaining team members requires more than just competitive pay; it also necessitates a continuous commitment to personal development and a positive company culture.
