For the project, you will be performing forward and backward simulations in regards to converting your own conventional vehicle into a hybrid and an electric vehicle.
Deliverables
Please turn in video (5-7 is probably enough, 7-10 min max) report to me by Dec 18th. Your report should include the following sections. For each section make sure that information is neat, clear, and a discussion is included. Your video should be very detailed, and contain enough information so that I could reproduce your results.
Introduction to your vehicle - Include relevant vehicle simulation parameters here. Also include a detailed discussion of your stock vehicle's powertrain (transmission type, ratios, final drive unit, 4WD system, hybrid, etc). This should be a fairly detailed discussion. Images would help here. This is where all the qualitative info we've learned in class will help!
Coast down test and results - Perform a cost down test on your vehicle to determine road load parameters like drag coefficient and rolling resistance coefficient. Get a friend to help you so one person can drive, and the other can run the stopwatch.
Road Load - Using these values, produce a plot of vehicle power requirement as a function of velocity in mph
Backward simulation (Conventional vehicle)- Estimate the vehicle mpg on the US06, and compare to actual values
Backward Sim (Hybrid) Do the same as above, but now with a series hybrid with re-gen. Assume vehicle weight has not changed! Grad section: You must figure out the series engine size to meet the average cycle power requirement, as well as the required pack capacity so the vehicle is charge sustaining on the US06 cycle, and ends at the same state-of-charge as it began. Please include a portion of your video that shows your simulink model, and what changes you made to find these values.
