For this assignment, you will plan, prepare, and deliver a well-structured 7-8-minute presentation of the Personal Development Plan you have been working on this term.

When delivering this presentation, your goal is to engage your audience effectively and communicate your plans for personal, academic, and professional success.

Rationale

This assignment will evaluate the following course learning outcomes:

5: Produce and present a coherent and cohesive written plan for personal and professional development.

8: Deliver presentations related to business topics using a wide range of intercultural and communication skills.

Directions

1. Include a brief introduction, body, and a strong closing. Your presentation should generally follow the outline of your PDP.
2. Your introduction should include a grabber, or hook. Get your audiences attention immediately with an interesting anecdote, quotation, or question.
3. Your conclusion should end with a clincher, an intriguing thought, question, or quotation that seizes your audiences attention until the very end.
4. Use visuals. If you have created a digital PDP portfolio, share it with the class. If you have not, use PowerPoint to present your ideas. Your visuals should help to clarify your ideas, emphasize important points, demonstrate relationships, and provide information that the audience needs to understand your message.

Some guidelines when using visuals in a presentation:

• Keep visuals clear, simple, and easy to see.
• Avoid using too many colors. Consider using 2-3 main colors throughout.
• Follow the 5x5 rule: no more than five words per line and no more than five lines per slide.
• Sans Serif fonts are easier to read than Serif fonts.
• Practice your presentation! Test your slides on the screen before you present, and make sure that your presentation runs no longer than 8 minutes.

PDP - Personal development plan , which includes following questions,

1. Introduction

   Briefly introduce yourself. You might answer questions like - where is home to you? What language(s) do you speak? Why have you chosen to study at Conestoga College? What do you like to do during your spare time? What is something interesting that most people wouldnt know just by looking at you? Include at least one visual, such as a picture, personal photograph, or video.

2. Goals

   Reflect on your academic, social, and professional goals.

   • Short-Term: what you would like to achieve this term? For example, gain confidence when speaking in groups, find a part-time job, etc.
   • Long-Term: what would you like to achieve over the next year and beyond? For example, gain management experience, become a Canadian citizen, etc.

3. Personal/Interpersonal Skills

   A skill in an ability to do something effectively. Skills do not come naturally; they are acquired and developed through direct experience, learning, and training.

   • Personal Skills: These are skills that you have developed and consider your strengths. For example, flexibility, confidence, and assertiveness. What are 2-3 personal skills that you possess? Elaborate on each skill and describe situations in which you use or have used them successfully.
   • Interpersonal Skills: These are sometimes referred to as people skills. They are skills you use when interacting and communicating with others in different situations where communication and cooperation are important. For example, active listening, patience, and dependability. What are 2-3 interpersonal skills that you possess? Consider your relationships with others, how you work as a team member, and how you manage yourself within a group and as a group leader.

4. Academic Skills

   Which academic areas do you excel in? Which areas need further development? Reflect on your strengths and weaknesses in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In addition, describe your study habits, problem-solving, critical thinking, and research skills.
