Design a horizontal alignment for a freight railway to connect points A and B on the topo

map shown in Fig$\mathrm{.}3.$ To reduce operating costs, it is desired to keep the absolute value of the

grade at all points on the line to $0\mathrm{.}50$ percent or less. The alignment of the railway

approaching A and B should match that of the existing tangents shown to the left of A and the

right of B$.$ The bearing of each of these tangents is N$4500$E$.$ You may select any design

standards you believe to be appropriate for this type of facility. Document your design by

means of a drawing showing stationing, bearings of tangents, deflection angles and radii of

horizontal curves, lengths of spiral transition curves, etc. Defend your design decisions in a

short report discussing design standards, design objectives, major design decisions, and your

rationale for your decisions.
