Question:
Determination of KI in tablets:
* 8 KI tablets were pulverized in a mortar.
* 2.5 g of the pulverized sample was weighed, dissolved in 50 mL of distilled water and brought to a final volume of 100 mL with water in a volumetric flask.
* A 20 mL aliquot was taken from the sample and transferred to an Erlenmeyer flask
* 1 mL of fluorescein indicator was added and the solution homogenized. It worked at pH 7.
* Titrated with AgNO3 0.1M until color change.
Results:
The volumes of AgNO3 consumed were: 7.8 mL, 7.8 mL and 7.9 mL.
Based on the above, determine the following:
a- Determine the percentage of KI. The sample should contain between 25.5 and 26.5% KI. Is this within the range?
b- Determine how many mg of KI react with 1 mL of AgNO3.
c- Write the titration reaction and the reaction with the indicator.
d- Indicate which argentometric method was used to determine iodine in this experiment.
