Determine a problem Ball Packaging Corporation is going through, late shipments, metal shortage, transportation issues.

• Identifying the key CTQs that need to be addressed
  • It might be helpful to reference the SIPOC approach (Supplier=> Input=> Process=> Output=> Customer) or a CTQ Flowdown/Tree as you work on your CTQs
• Preparing your Project Charter
  • This should include items such as your Business Case (WHY), Problem/Goal Statements (What), Project Scope (How), Milestones (When) and Roles (Who)
• Providing a high-level Process Map
  • You could reuse your SIPOC - or build any other - but you need to explain the process you are working with.

NOTES ABOUT THIS PROJECT:

STRATEGIC DMAIC: Applying the DMAIC problem-solving thought process can be applied at various levels. For example, if you are working on a specific logistics problem such as Late Shipments, you are attacking what I would label a 'tactical' problem. The DMAIC steps and processes will likely seem logical and probably more intuitive based on your experience to this point. Strategic DMAIC is my term for applying the same steps but to a more strategic problem. Please allow me to use a somewhat farcical example to illustrate. Let's say that you want to solve World Hunger. How would you DEFINE the problem? The definition is critical...and will help define how you will measure success. If I were solving a problem statement that says "I do not have an adequate Data Analytics process to allow my company to improve its supply chain" then I would follow a DEFINE logic to establish how I would measure that problem, and build the business case appropriately. Your task in this course is to find the right balance of strategic DMAIC while also learning the tools for Data Analytics.

PARTIAL PROJECT PHASES: This project will also be different from other projects so far in the program, in that you will never be moving into IMPROVE or CONTROL. For the next few weeks we will be working very closely on the "D" and the "M", and later you will determine the right analysis tool(s) to address "A", pivoting more toward analytics, not just for this problem, but as well, for an enterprise solution for the company/supply chain.
