pharmacology. One partner portrays the therapist, while the other portrays the

patient.

Guidelines for Role Play Demonstration Development

Establish a role play objective. Before you develop your role play, clarify

what you want to communicate to your audience about the

psychopharmacology topic you are addressing. These should be two or

three major points to communicate across the 10 minutes for each role

play. What you communicate should reflect what you have learned in this

course about clinical psychopharmacology. You should also establish how

the therapist will model clinical skills during the role play.

Establish details about the setting. For example, where does the

therapist/patient encounter take place? Is this a first encounter, or do the

therapist and patient have an established relationship?

Clarify details about the patient and his or her presenting problem. For

example, what is the patient's age and cultural background? Why has the

patient come to see the therapist? What are the patient's symptoms and

how will these be communicated during the role play?
