Cooking is an excellent activity to use to develop math skills in young children, not only does it provide math skills, but it's also really fun and engaging! Cooking encourages math skills such as using numbers, measurements, and sequence. One math skill that can be used is measurements, as children will be using cups, teaspoons, and scales to measure ingredients. I have personally used this as an activity during summer school once, and it was a hit! Counting can be another math skill to incorporate into cooking.. such as counting eggs, vegetables, flour, and even counting measurements.
