PRACTICAL APPLICATION 15.2 Wade spent the afternoon drinking orange juice and vodka with his girlfriend Lor- raine. After consuming four drinks each, they drove off in Wade's car with Wade driv- ing. Wade then pulls into the parking of Mark's Market. Wade did not tell Lorraine why he pulled in, but he later said it was to buy cigarettes. Paige was the lone clerk in the store. Inside the store, Wade began talking to and whistling at the Doberman Pinscher guard dog on duty that day. Paige told Wade not to mess with the dog; he is trained to protect the place. Wade then approached the cash register and demanded money. Paige at first thought Wade was joking, but then he demanded money in a firmer tone and Paige thought he was serious. Paige then began fumbling with one dollar bills until Wade directed her to big bills. As Paige was separating the checks from the twenty dollar bills, Wade said, "I won't do it to you; you're good looking and I won't do it to you this time, but if you're here next time, it won't matter." A woman then came into the store and directed Wade out of the store. Wade was later arrested and claimed the whole thing was a joke. Wade later told the police that as soon as Paige told him it was a watchdog he went to the cash register and said to Paige, "I want your money.
