Discuss: Employee Survey (Final Project Step 1)
If you haven't already, please begin by reading the Final Project Scenario: Internal Proposal Reportpage. This assignment will not make sense without that information.
Scenario Continued:
Your meeting with the CEO has just ended. Very quickly, you identify that your first step is to develop some possible solutions. Remember that monetary rewards are unavailable (i.e. Offering a bonus or pay raise), so you must get creative. You decide that conducting secondary research to find ways to motivate and reward employees is a great place to start. On a related note, primary research on non-monetary benefits and compensation is also necessary. After completing secondary research, create a short, primary research survey you can provide to your five team members. Follow the steps below to complete this discussion.
Completing the Final Project Step 1, Discuss: Employee Survey
Read the Read: Finding, Evaluating, and Processing Information page. I provide information there that is vital to your success on this assignment.
Brainstorm a list of possible solutions to the issue. Remember, a pay raise or bonus isn't feasible at this time. You can, however, add a small employee benefit (so long as it doesn't exceed $5,000 for the year for five people), offer an incentive or reward that isn't monetary, explore rewards in terms of paid time off, offer an experience, etc. The possibilities are endless, this part is up to you!
Conduct secondary research using credible sources to identify other possible solutions and the validity of your own ideas. Please recall that the CEO has asked your proposal to be of interest to your team members as well as be identified as proven employee motivation and retention tool. (Remember to save your sources for the Bibliography of your report. You will need this information in subsequent steps of the project. I recommend starting a Final Project Bibliography document and saving it to your computer or starting a folder in your internet browser to store the sites and resources.) I include two resources below that I like to give you ideas and help jump-start your research:
Herzberg's Employee Motivation TheoryLinks to an external site.Randstad's Non-Monetary Incentives ArticleLinks to an external site.
Identify three to five viable solutions to the problem at hand using a combination of your own ideas and secondary research. Remember, the CEO wants your ideas well-supported by sound research and sources.
Create a primary research survey that you can use to collect data from your five team members. Refer to Chapter 13, section three for more information (specifically to Figure 13.2 on page 374 of the people textbook or page 398 in the megaphone textbook). This survey should be brief, three to five questions, and use various question types. (See the example below to ensure you understand the assignment expectations.) This survey is an excellent opportunity to collect perspectives and quotes from your employees that you can use to support your proposal in the presentation to the senior management team. Be thinking ahead as you write this survey!
Post your survey to the class discussion below with a brief opening paragraph explaining the purpose. Welcome to the last one-third of the course! Doesn't it feel good to hear that? This is an important week because we will beginning our final project! To help ensure your success, the final project is broken into parts. Each part is crucial to your success, so I'll provide feedback to you each step of the way. We will begin this week by learning about primary and secondary research, and conducting some of both!
Week 12 To-Do List:
Read the commentary page and chapter 13(especially the guidelines for primary research surveys)
