A sample is a specific group from the population which is the entire group. A coed softball team is the population and female players on the team is the sample. This is an example of cluster sampling because it is based on a group based on a specific characteristic being gender. Using the coed team as the population, collecting data using a random sample could reduce or eliminate any bias of the population.
