Discussion 1- So what?! Get to the point!" - We all know people (and can be the people) who depict and elaborate stories to the most extreme degree. Not only can the story become a redundant tale, but the point of the story can get lost and so can the listener. Describe a time when a long winded story has had an effect on the outcome of a situation (did the story cause an accident, a fight, an uproar? listeners to fall asleep? ; did it get someone out of trouble, a situation?; have you/ has anyone dealt with a long talker? ... )
Discussion 2- Recalling the Deeply detailed day post from week before - how important were people skills when trying to elicit information from people (especially personal info)? What tactics did you use, or which ones - truth: "it's for an assignment"; compassion: "just make an address up"; reasoning: "just make up a phone number - I don't think my teacher can call you"; ? When trying to find a means to get the information that is needed, we can often blur the thin line between morally correct and lawful means of eliciting information. Looking back, did this blurring happen? Often? When most? With whom (family, friends, acquaintances, work colleagues, strangers on the bus)?
