Guidelines for the Submission of Documents to the Supreme Court's Electronic Filing System The Guidelines, available on Westlaw, highlight the need for a Paralegal to be proficient in document security such as removing metadata and redaction (which we will cover in Week 8). Please read the Guidelines and note that these Guidelines are for the Supreme Court of the United States (\"SCOTUS) but also are similar to guidelines and/or rules for other courts, including United States District Courts. Federal Rules of Civil Procedure Rule 5.2 The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure require certain sensitive information to be removed from a document prior to electronically filing the document. We will discuss redaction and E-Filing in Week 8. For now, think about how the information that is required to redacted relates to document security, specifically metadata. Rule 5.2 is available on Westlaw. The first section of the rule is below, but please review the complete rule. (a) Redacted Filings. Unless the court orders otherwise, in an electronic or paper filing with the court that contains an individual's social-security number, taxpayer-identification number, or birth date, the name of an individual known to be a minor, or a financial-account number, a party or nonparty making the filing may include only: (1) the last four digits of the social-security number and taxpayer-identification number; Rule 5.2 is available on Westlaw.
