Discussion $-$ Java Jargon, Language, and Learning

Every discipline $$ medicine, law, computer science $$ is filled with jargon $$ special terminology that is specific to the discipline. Consider the following three items and discuss your thoughts about how they are related to one another in terms of the use of jargon and people$$s reaction to jargon, growth within a discipline, and your own growth as a student of Computer Science over time. Consider how you would have understood Mary$$s conversation in the first week of CSCI $111,$ and what it means to you now.$$

Joe and John were having lunch in the school cafeteria when Joe noticed his friend Mary, the attractive Computer Science student. She was on the phone, but motioned for them to sit at her table.

$...$No$,$ you can$$t see it$,$ it$$s encapsulated. $...$ The valueOf methods for Wrapper classes are class level methods$...$ That$$s right, you use the wrapper class name with the valueOf method because it$$s static. $...$ That$$s right, you can use valueOf with any wrapper class. Snap!$$ You got it$,$ Dude.$$ It$$s polymorphic!$$

When she finished, Joe introduced Mary to John. Later Joe asked John $$So$,$ what do you think of my friend Mary?$$

$$She$$s nice, but I didn$$t understand a word she said on the phone.$$

$$Maybe she knows somebody who collects old cigar wrappers.$$

$$Maybe$.$ What's the value of a cigar wrapper, anyway?$$

The Russian Nobel prize winning writer and former Soviet dissident Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn wrote a book about the life of a prisoner in a Stalin$-$era Soviet labor camp in the cold winter of Siberia, $$One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich$.$ The prisoner lives in a dirt$-$floored shack with worn out clothes and rags for shoes. $$In one scene, the prisoner is brought in to clean the floor of the guard$$s quarters, which has a concrete floor and a cast iron stove. The prisoner is slow and takes his time, enjoying the warmth.$$ The guard gets mad that he is taking too long and throws him back outside. The prisoner thinks $$How can someone who is warm possibly understand someone who is cold?$$
