Discussion WEEK 4 This week's topic will discuss Thomas Midgley and his invention of leaded gasoline. While this discovery was considered revolutionary at the time (it raised the octane level of gas), lead was a known toxin, yet it still had widespread use throughout the United States until being banned years later. Midgley was actually known for quite a few inventions, though none that are looked upon fondly today. 1) Given what was known about lead, why do you think it took so long for action to be taken concerning leaded gasoline?2) What lesson stood out to you from what you read and viewed?3) Do we something similar today, with a recent invention or device that is now considered beneficial but may in fact be causing more harm than good?
