Classmate 1 Question Incarceration is one of the penalties associated with corporate crime. I believe that incarceration is definitely an appropriate punishment for those who commit corporate crimes because a fine and other forms of punishment is not as effective. Since fines can easily be paid for those who are usually responsible for corporate crimes, placing the offenders behind bars has the potential to limit recidivism. Other types of white collar crimes like fraud and money laundering should lead to jail time as well due to the fact that this punishment will show others that this is not a minor crime and possibly help the white collar crime criminals acknowledge that their actions were wrong. Based on information mentioned within the online text white collar offenders are not dangerous in the direct, predatory sense, and accordingly they need not be incarcerated. A final argument is that it is more beneficial to victims of white collar crimes to require offenders to earn money legally outside prison and make restitution, which also saves taxpayers the costs of incarceration, two major drawbacks to incarcerating these criminals (Friedrichs, 2009). On the other hand, some benefits of incarceration involve all criminals being treated equally regardless of the crime they committed in terms of facing jail time for engaging in illegal behavior and the fact that victims of their wrongdoing will be relieved that those who caused them harm will be held accountable.

Classmate 2 Question I believe that the best way to help someone who is involved in Domestic Violence is to talk to the person that is being abused when the abuser is not around. Also keep in mind that the abusee could be either a female or male. Sometimes without saying it, you can probably tell when someone is being abused by seeing injuries and bruises on the body. I would ask why he/she is still with the abuser. Some women stay in the abuse relationship because they developed low self-esteem, believing that the abuser will change, shame, guilt, and fear. I would recommend places that can help with getting the abuser away and not hurting the person again. Also there maybe support groups that can help guide the person to live a healthier and better life. The wrong way to approach this situation is confronting the abuser, because that would only lead to more abusing. So, involving legal authority can help the situation better. Abused women who obtain permanent (rather than temporary) court orders of protection are 80 percent less likely to be assaulted again (Jackson, 2003).
