What are the risks associated with compressing or crashing a project?

Crashing is compressing the project completion schedule drastically by increasing labor or production inputs and other expenses to make ends meet. This method often becomes the source of extra frustration and stress for project managers as they are urged to either steal from the quality or design of a product or service or exceed the given project variables such as the budget. In a project, as we evaluated so far, many different work activities and factors are involved, and usually, these processes are interlinked. One risk is the dependency of such processes on their proceedings. This impracticality leads to an increase in communication and planning costs. On the other hand, crashing or compressing may pose a threat to the overall functional structure of a project, the team. The adverse effects include turnovers, risks to product quality, coordination, and safety.

There is always the possibility of not meeting the set project delivery time. In some of these cases, managers pursue a crashing strategy if they believe they can increase efficiency and productivity and still make it to the scheduled delivery.This is the main motivation behind voluntary crashing. However, when this procedure is applied to a project at its extreme, there appears a substantial possibility of problems. Therefore, the scope, cost, time, and technology variables of the project suffer volatilities and detrimental impacts.
