Etiquette skills and office politics are important, and they also go together in a way. Having good office politics is important because, you need to have good people skills and you have to be able to build connections with people in the workplace and this goes hand in hand with having good etiquette because, you need to just be yourself and have to genuine when talking to people.

My one friend works at the psych ward at the hospital, and one night she was working she saw one of her co-workers getting fired because they told him he was not "nice enough" to the patients. They did this because, he would be following the rules but most of the patients were complaining because he was not "happy" enough to be there. He was indeed happy to be there but sometimes he just was not in the mood to be smiling all the time. It is terrible that people get fired for not being "happy" enough, but it happens everywhere, you need to show good etiquette and respect people no matter where you are. Good etiquette is very important in everyday life, you need to be respectable to everyone you meet because you never know who that person actually is.
