Every year some of the computer science students transfer to a 4 year program to complete a Bachelor degree. Some of those students have a desire to go on to even greater heights - a Masters degree or even PhD. It is a daunting task - but it is also quite rewarding. The following video talks about some of the difficult issues in solving problems with computer software. As future computer scientist (or at least potential software engineers) there are some things to consider. These are the questions that characterize computer science: What can and can not be computed? How fast can a certain computation be carried out? How much information is needed to carry out a certain computation? How can information be efficiently (and securely) encoded, stored, retrieved, and transmitted? How do we design programs? How do we know a program is correct? How can computational theories help explain intelligence and consciousness? Watch the video Many of us want to learn to code so we can write the next cool app. But that is not what the video talks about. Then there is all the area between coding an app, and solving the incredibly difficult problems of the world.
