Background As we know, our culture and co-cultures have a tremendous impact on how we learn to communicate. In this discussion board we'll examine how you were raised affects the conflict patterns you follow. As your book says, "...we tend to handle conflict habitually, in the default ways we've been conditioned through observing others" (section 11.2).

The discussion Please read Chapter 11 and think about the way you handle conflict, then answer the following questions.

1. Of the five styles of conflict management (section 11.2), which one do you tend to use? How do you think you learned that style?

2. In section 11.3, your text explains healthy ways to approach and respond to conflict. Which of the strategies listed are hardest for you? Choose one from the "approaching" list and one from the "responding" list. Explain your answer.

3. Look at the section on "Conflict Triggers" (11.3). Of the four listed, which ones really set you off? Why do you think that is?
