For example, even if men = 1 and women = 2 (as data sets often do), do not say that "the modal group was 1." This would not make much sense and would make the reader ask which group was "1" and which group was "2." Makeit simple and clear. Rather, you shouldsay something like"the modal group was "1," (i.e., male)" or something similar.
