Dr. Saluti Hints Background: Just one paragraph explaining that there are two products, College footballs (C) and All-Pro footballs (A). Discuss how Mr. Reiser wants to maximize profits but doesn't know how many of each product to make. There are three manufacturing departments - Cutting and Dyeing , Sewing , Inspection and Packaging, with various manufacturing constraints. Refer to a Department Constraints Table that you show at the bottom of your Background section. State that this situation required an LP application, as shown in Attachments 1-8. Also, explain that the VP of Marketing wants to change the pricing , which will change the profit for each product. The original profit under the current pricing is $4 for C and $5 for A. The new profit under the proposed new pricing from the Marketing VP is $5 for C and $4 for A. Now explain that the Accounting Manager wants all mathematics checked with Excel Solver. The Department Constraints Table will be set up at the bottom of the Background section. It should have 4 columns. The left-hand column should be titled "Departments " and should list the departments. The next two columns, a column titled "College " and a column titled "All-Pro," should list the time constraints in minutes for each product for each department. The far-right column, titled "Capacity" will have the maximum time available in minutes for each department. You will have to convert the hours to minutes for each department. Put two extra rows at the bottom of the Table, one row for the profit under original pricing for each product, and one row for the profit under the Marketing VP's new pricing for each product. Issue The Issue should sound something like "How many of each type of football should Reiser Sports make and under what pricing in order to maximize profit?" Make sure that it is worded as a question Alternatives: Number and list all six Alternatives. "Hint" - There are three Alternatives under the original pricing and three Alternatives under the Marketing VP's new pricing. For example, one Alternative might be "Only College footballs with the original pricing ." Another might be "Only All-Pro footballs with the original pricing." And yet another might be "A combination of College footballs and All-Pro footballs with the original pricing ." Before you go on to the Analysis of Alternatives and Recommendation sections , you will have to do some "LP Graphic Method Attachments." Let's do some graphing. Make College footballs (C) your vertical axis and make All-Pro footballs (A) your horizontal axis. For your vertical C axis, go up in equal spacing increments by 500, going from 0 to 4,000. For your horizontal A axis, go across in equal spacing increments by 500 , moving from 0 to 3,000. You have just set up a blank LP graph
