Draft Profile A few weeks ago my husband and | were hanging out with some friends. We have not seen these friends in a while and we were excited to be up with them. | began asking them about work and school. | asked Sarah where she was currently working, she explained to me she was working at a local community daycare full time. She told me she wasn't going to school this semester because she was not sure what to study. She expressed to me how she believes schooling is important, but the ultimate goal is to be a full time stay at home with her children when she and her husband were ready to have children. | remember talking to her that night and admiring that she wanted to raise her children full time when the time comes. | expressed that | wanted to be at home with my kids full time when | am a mom someday. That night we talked all night about the benefits it has shown to be a full time mom for a child. | connected with her more that night than | have ever with my other close friends. | found it cool and amazing to find one woman in my life that wants to benefit their children by raising them instead of putting them in daycare to pursue their work career. After Sarah and | talked for hours, | felt very inspired about this local issue in our community. | feel not enough people talk about it or know enough about how beneficial it is to have a parent not put their child in daycare. As | started putting together my profile | immediately thought of my friend Sarah to interview on this subject. She works first hand in the daycare world so | knew she would be honest and perfect for answers. Friday April 26th , | am scheduled to interview Sarah. We met around 12:30 in the afternoon on Sarah's lunch break. Near the daycare is a Starbucks, that is where | conducted the interview. | took out my phone, and got ready to take notes. | began asking Sarah how she first heard of this job. She said her sister worked at this daycare and always talked about how fun it was to work there. Although working in a fun environment was intrusive to her, it wasn't her first reason to work there. She said the main reason she took this job is because when she had her interview, she walked into a room with 6-12 month old babies playing on a padded floor with toys. She said there were about 10 babies in that room and only 2 employees playing or watching them. She said some of the babies seemed to not be getting attention because well, simply there just wasn't enough help. That scene painted the picture for her, she said "The main reason | took this job is because | felt a sense of wanting to help these poor little babies that were not getting the full attention they deserved. It's not that they were treated wrong or abused but | felt neglect in the room and my heart immediately opened up to them." Sarah only works with infants to 2dmonths and the longer she is there, the more responsibility she will have with all ages. | wanted to find more detail on the behavior with the younger children she watches everyday. | asked her how children act when they are being dropped off in the mornings. How is their behavior when they see his or her mom or dad leaving? She explained that the younger babies 0-6 months don't know any difference and are usually sleeping in the mornings. She said the babies ranging from 6-24 months "well, now that is a different story. Those babies realize they are being dropped off and will cry and grip onto their parents shirt not wanting them to leave." She explained they usually will cry for a few minutes or up to an hour but she can usually get their mind off of it." | told Sarah | read a study that shows Draft Profile A few weeks ago my husband and | were hanging out with some friends. Do you believe a mother or father should be with the baby during those first 3 years to teach them and care for them? Sarah said " Personally, Yes | do agree parents should be with children in those first beginning crucial years. Here is why...there are many times we will be rocking a baby to sleep, or feeding a baby while another baby is crying, we only have so many and rist of the time we just let the baby cry because we are taking care of another baby who cried before them. It makes me sick to hear a baby cry and we can't attend to them right away." "The list of problems that stem from neglect reads like the index of the DSM: poor impulse control, social withdrawal, problems with coping and regulating emotions, low self-esteem, pathological behaviors such as tics, tantrums, stealing and self-punishment, poor intellect functioning and low academic achievement. Across the board, these are kids who have s problems throughout their lifetime. Those are just some of the problems that David A. "Although, sometimes parents that do bring their children to daycare are single parents and that is their only option and they have to work. Other times, sometimes parents choose or want to work to further their career." "Being an at home mother is the most important job there is. One that requires incredible sacrifice but provides tremendous satisfaction in return. When | was a working mom | would be with my son in the morning, take him to school, go to work, and be there to pick him up from school. He had no idea | worked because | was always there. There are mothers who think they have to work full time, go to school full time, be a wife and be a mother. The truth is you can't do it all. What usually falls apart is being a mother and a wife. Which makes for a home not having any Pace or joy. Any woman who believes that her love, her touch, her teachings, her playing can be replaced by hired help. It is wrong that your child will never be loved by hired help the way you love them. Children come not knowing anything they want to be taught how to love, how to trust by the person they love and trust, the person they came out of, their mother. It is shown children who were bounced around from daycare to nannies are affected into their adulthood by finding it hard to love and have intimacy. It's so important for a child to know their mommy and daddy think they are so important that they are always there for them every day of every hour." Schlessinger, Laura. Many don't know a lot about it so | feel how important it is for it to be noticed in a child's life. Children are our next generation. It's important they are raised right. (
