Drafting Your Argument

Could you write a paragraph that articulates your working argument for your research paper? After reviewing my comments on your essay one assignment, you will practice writing your introduction and thesis statement, the position you will argue, in preparation for developing essay two.

The intent is to continuously consider your research and how you want to engage in the dialogue on your topic, hence constant thinking, writing, and refining.

What to include in your paragraph:

1. Present your argument (what you are grappling with regarding what you think and why, using the scholarly article as a resource to inspire your own position).

2. Discuss the merits of your argument.

3. Include evidence from your resource to demonstrate the rationale behind your argument.

4. Discuss how the evidence supports the rationale.

5. Conclude the paragraph by illustrating how it may connect to a larger aspect of the argument.

6. Citation

Organic farming is certainly most closely linked to sustainable agriculture, and it would be a great introduction to this essay. I may focus on the importance of organic farming and its connection to healthy ecosystems. That will be the key phrase in my research.
