Drainage material - When Crew 2 has finished a section, Crew 1 will reinstate
the area behind the wall. This will entail laying the geotextile and laying drainage
material behind the completed gabions. They can lay the geotextile and place
and compact the Drainage Material at a rate of up to 75m3? day.
Crew 2 will construct the gabion wall. The crew consists of four labourers and a loader
(with operator). The gabion wall consists of two levels of 1m wide 1m high 2m long
gabion baskets. The crew will put the baskets together away from the working area.
There is enough area to store all baskets on site. It takes one person 15 minutes to
construct one basket. They will wait 2 days after the concrete slab is laid (to allow it to
cure) and then will lay out the first layer of baskets. They then need to use the loader to
transport rocks to each basket and fill it. It will take two labourers 8 minutes to fill each
basket. They will then construct the second layer, requiring 9 minutes for two labourers
to lay and fill each basket.
Materials costs are -
Drainage Aggregate =$210m3
Gabion Baskets =$30? basket
Gabion Rocks =$190m3
Foundation Gravel =$140m3
Mesh Reinforcing =$85? sheet (each sheet is 2.4m1.2m).
Concrete =$320m3
Geotextile =$25m2.
All costs include delivery to the site.
Cost rates are -
Loader =$190? hour
Excavator =$350? hour
Labourers =$50? hour
The project starts on Monday, 1 July 2024, and you wish to complete the project as quickly as
possible. You can move labourers between crews, but you do not have access to additional
resources, so you need to organise the crews to finish in the least amount of time. Make
reasonable assumptions for any other information that may be required, and remember to note
these assumptions in your calculations.
Working hours are 8 am to 6pm from Monday to Friday with 30-minute breaks in the morning
and afternoon and a 1-hour lunch break. It will take 5 days to establish onsite at the beginning
of the project and 5 days to disestablish at the end.
For this assessment, you need to:
Produce a program for the project. You will need to determine the durations and sequence
so that the project is completed as efficiently as possible, including using lead and lag as
appropriate. (20 marks)
Produce a Budget and Cash Flow (by week) for the project (15 marks)
Produce a Risk Management Plan with at least 2 risks affecting each of scope, time and
cost objectives (i.e.6 risks minimal). The plan should identify each risk, assess its severity,
and propose actions to mitigate it.(15 marks)
Note that the calculations required for the durations and costs and any assumptions are to be
included in your submission. Marks are awarded for the neatness and logical layout, as well as
the correctness of the calculations. All outputs and associated calculations are to be compiled
into one PDF to be submitted to Moodle by the due date.
