DIRECTIONS - Draw a systems flowchart for the following payroll process in the shorter Company. Use descriptions within the symbols to explain and clarify the processes taking place at any given moment in this data process. SYSTEM NARRATIVE The following data processing steps are performed by AIS personnel to generate the Shorter Company payroll. The employee payroll information (hours worked, pay rate, exemptions, retirement benefits, and other necessary data) are gathered by payroll clerks. The gathered data is typed on a pre- formatted payroll source document. This information is then put on a machine readable media using a keypunch machine. The transaction information is then placed on magnetic tape using a punch card to magnetic tape conversion machine. This transaction file is then sorted by ID number using a IBM model 3081-D mainframe computer. The mainframe then performs a file update using a payroll master file residing on magnetic disk. Three reports are generated and the results are printed out on the na intrane line (impact) printer. The payroll summary report is also stored on magnetic tape. The reports generated are (1) the payroll summary report, (2) the employee checks arid (3) a detailed payroll report. detailed payroll report is filed away. The employee checks are sent to the branch President for her signature. The signed checks are distributed on payday to the employees by the branch company cashier. Finally, the hardcopy of the payroll summary report is filed away. The copy of the payroll summary report on magnetic tape is used to send an electronic copy of this report to the companies main office. The information is read into a remote job entry terminal (microcomputer) using a magnetic tape reader hooked to the terminal. The communication link used is a telephone line. Arter transmission, the report is then printed off at the main office using the line printer at that location. One copy of this report is filed away. Two other copies are distributed to the Board of Directors by the Data Processing mail clerk. A MacBook Air 000
