duction: The ability to generate a large and effective vertical jump height is important to many athletic sporting events such as basketball, football, volleyball, cheer, gymnastics, track and field and even dance. The desire to increase flight time and vertical displacement allows athletes greater opportunities for success when trying to out jump their opponent, block a spike at the net, and perform advanced cheer routines. There are several techniques used by athletes to attempt a maximal jump height and the most popular is the countermovement jump (CMJ). The CMJ technique begins with standing in a static position, followed by flexing at the hips, knees, and ankles to reach a maximal deep squat. After reaching peak squat depth, an explosive upwards force through extension of the lower extremities and swinging of the arms upward is performed. Each action contributes to the total net impulse generated by the individual. In addition, when an athlete lands following their jump, this same net impulse is used by the body to slow the center of mass down. It is the net reactionary force experienced by the jumper over a period of time that slows them to a stop. Approaches for improving vertical jump height and
