During your readings, you learned the importance of avoiding both intentional and unintentional plagiarism. In a short personal reflection essay, discuss the issue of academic integrity and plagiarism. Type the essay directly into the Add Submission button below, or copy and paste it from MS Word (attach the Word file if the formatting gets messed up with you enter the essay). You will need to spend some time thinking about how to structure your essay. You may wish to begin with a "hook" and you can use research sources like articles from the web, the library, material from class or Moodle, or material from the NAIT Academic Integrity Module, as long as you identify the source of the information with a lead in or in-text citation, and as long as direct quotations are in quotation marks. Discuss the topic with honesty and depth, and please pay attention to structure/organization. I suggest putting together a quick outline before you start writing; you may use the template provided in the attached file to create an outline if you want. Here are some topics that you might want to discuss in the essay. You don't have to cover all of them (please feel free to narrow down the angle of your essay and focus on a particular aspect of the topic), but I will be looking for evidence that you have a thorough background and understanding of the issues around academic integrity: In general, what kinds of situations would qualify as intentional plagiarism? What situations would qualify as unintentional plagiarism? Provide examples. What are some of the challenges you, personally, have encountered when trying to maintain academic integrity? Why is plagiarism/academic integrity, such an important issue in the postsecondary environment and/or in society as a whole? Why are academic integrity infringements a big problem for everyone? Why should students be motivated to master accurate citation and reference formats? What tools and assistance have you used to help you learn how to do the citations and references? What further assistance and support do you need? What is your plan or strategy for getting more help and improving your skills for upcoming assignments? These essays can be a little boring to read, so if you can incorporate stories, examples, humour, or creativity to make the essays both entertaining AND educational, I will be very grateful! We will continue to explore APA citations and references, and we'll get into more of the nitty gritty details as we progress through the course However, none of this information really makes sense unless you DO it, so please give the citations and references a try in this assignment. my feedback I will provide some quick suggestions about areas for improvement, and I'll be marking the citation and reference component i the assignment quite generously.
