Name: SPSS LAB: t-Tests The Stroop Task Experiment The Stroop Effect is the phenomenon in which it is easier to say the color of a word if it matches the semantic meaning of the word. When the color of the word and the semantic meaning do not match, it takes you longer to say the color of the word and you are prone to more errors. The words themselves interfere with your ability to quickly say the correct color of the word. The researcher predicts there will be differences in reaction time between congruent and incongruent conditions. As part of this lab, you will participate in a version of the Stroop task experiment online. As a participant, you will experience both conditions (levels). Congruent (Normal) Condition: the name of a color (e.g., "blue," "green," or "red") is printed in an ink color that matches the name (e.g., the word "red" printed in red ink). Incongruent (Interference) Condition: the name of a color (e.g., "blue," "green," or "red") is printed in an ink color not denoted by the name (e.g., the word "red" printed in blue ink instead of red ink). *The data analyzed (SPSS output) for this lab is prior student results! 1 . a. Take the Stroop Task online (the link is provided under the lab assignment). Report your congruent and incongruent times. congruent : 10 81ms in congruent : 1043 ms b. What is the independent variable? conditions What are the levels of the independent variable? congruent and incongruent times d. What is the dependent variable? Reaction times e. Is the research hypothesis one tailed or two tailed? f. State the research hypothesis. g. State the null hypothesis. h. What is the experimental design of this study? (between subjects or within subjects)
