Each student will choose a start-up and create an executive summary

Each student will choose a start-up and create an executive summary for such according to generally accepted business standards. This is a maximum 1500 word assignment. Check your wordcount under the TOOLS dropdown menu. Assignments that go beyond the length limit will not be read or graded. Assignments must be submitted to D2L by the posted deadline. It is your responsibility to ensure the submitted file is readable in D2L (.docx, .doc, .pdf). Check after you receive confirmation of receipt. Files that are not in the correct format and not readable in D2L will receive a mark of zero. Any Executive Summary on a company that does not meet the following requirements will receive a GRADE OF ZERO (0) and not be marked. To be eligible the company had to have met the following criteria. The startup had to have less than 20 full time employees The startup had to have less than $10,000,000 in revenue for the last 12 months. The startup must be in operation mode generating revenue. Please note funding and grants do not qualify as revenue. Also, the startup had to have been founded within the last 5 years. This is very important. To confirm the start date find the firm in LinkedIn and read the "About the firm" information. The startup cannot be a "mom and pop" corner operation, "home-based service business", a franchise, a professional such as a lawyer, accountant, architect, insurance or real estate agent, a contractor or related services such as plumber or electrician. The startup must be arms-length from the student - i.e. not that of a close family member or one in which the student has a financial interest, which includes employment or contribution to building the company. Please note that all current startups in Ryersons Digital Media Zone (DMZ) meet the criteria for this assignment. As do all ventures in a Zone on campus. Find a startup by exploring here: ZONE LEARNING The Executive Summary will follow the template discussed in class and found on D2L. Students are not required to obtain financial data. Students may not acquire or request from the founders, nor any other source, a copy of that start- ups Executive Summary. The work produced must be the students own. While it is not required, students are encouraged to contact the founders of the start-up chosen and interview them regarding the assignment.
