[20] Question 3 a) Find the direct cost estimate for a 1.5m shallow excavation to connect a sewer pipe into an existing reticulation. Work will have to be done by hand due the restricted nature of the excavation and proximity of the existing pipe. If the soil type is clay and a double handling allowance of Thr/m is likely, calculate the rate per m3 iflabor costs K60.00/hr all-in. [20] b) The rate required for excavating top soil, average depth 300mm over the area on which a culvert is to be constructed. The top soil will be pushed into heaps and used to cover the embankments once the culvert is completed. The culvert is part of the larger road contract and there is likely to be a small bulldozer available at the time which it is decided will be used for this pricing exercise. There is about 60m3 of work to be done according to the bill of quantities which would make its usage economical. Calculate the direct cost estimate if the bulldozer costs K850.00/hr all-in and one laborer required to assist costs K60.00/hr all-in.
