Project Statement
It is required to use the synchronous motor described in page 2 to design a power factor control scheme. The objective is to run the motor at minimum armature current while the motor output is kept constant. Four different level of output power need tested in order to minimise the armature current.

A 3,5MVA,11kV,60Hz synchronous motor has a synchronous reactance of (5-10) per phase and has negligible stator resistance. The machine is a Y connected armature and its rotational losses are neglected.
